The Fort is proud to be working on certification for the Indiana Chapter of the National Audubon Society
Our Mission
The Amos W. Butler Audubon Society is a non-profit organization that
promotes the awareness, understanding, enjoyment and stewardship of the
environment and natural resources of central Indiana by protecting
natural areas, support ecological research, educating the public and by
taking part in appropriate advocacy to protect the environment with an
emphasis on birds and their habitats.
Chapter Activities Include:
- Monthly programs - usually the second Friday of each month, fascinating and educational
- Field trips - usually the third Saturday of each month for regional birding
- Audubon
"LifeLines" - local newsletter to members; including calendar of
events, local and national environmental issues, and birding
information
- Fowl Play and Audubon Adventures - programs that teach elementary students about birding
- Audubon
Ecology Camps - our chapter sponsors a scholarship for teachers or
environmental educators to National; Audubon Society's summer ecology
camp
Christmas Bird Count - out chapter organizes three major Christmas Bird Counts in central Indiana
- Great
Backyard Bird Count - we help promote and contribute to this national
count through educational programs and gathering and submitting
information from local birders
- Armchair Activists - an opportunity to participate in conversation issues at a national and local level
- Birdathon - our chapter raises funds through an annual bird count for land acquisition and bird research
- Parks - our chapter works with local parks by providing input and environmental educational activities and promoting bird walks
